The 20-man shortlist for the 2020 Golden Boy award has been published.
Voted for yearly by sports actions journalists from across Europe, the award recognises the ideal younger player in the continent. Those nominated must be below the age of 21 and play in a high European division.
Final year, Atletico Madrid star Joao Felix scooped the gong, largely thanks to his performances for Benfica. Past winners have included Paul Pogba, Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi so the award will even be aged as a moderately correct barometer of the ‘subsequent big element’ in world football.
