The University of Tennessee is investigating its soccer program for “alleged recruiting violations and alleged impermissible advantages to athletes,” in accordance to Blake Toppmeyer of the Knoxville News Sentinel.
“Anytime in college soccer or college athletics, you salvage conventional compliance stuff,” head coach Jeremy Pruitt talked about of the investigation after Saturday’s 34-13 loss to Texas A&M. “That is all I know.”
Pruitt had no longer been interviewed as of Sunday for the investigation, though “soccer assistant coaches, athletes and make stronger staffers” were interviewed.
Tag Schlabach of ESPN reported Saturday that the recruitment of Amarius Mims—the No. 7 participant in the Class of 2021 and the No. 3 offensive contend with, per 247Sports actions.com—was a section of the investigation. Mims by hook or by crook signed with Georgia, though Tennessee was a finalist.
Additionally, sophomore running wait on Eric Grey was held out of Saturday’s game vs. Texas A&M, with Schlabach reporting it was associated to the compliance division inquiry.
“He was unavailable,” Pruitt talked about when asked why Grey didn’t play.
“Consistent with our institutional dedication to compliance, we in total look closely at regulatory disorders which will likely be dropped at our consideration thru inner or exterior channels,” Tom Satkowiak, Tennessee’s athletic division spokesperson, talked about in an announcement over the weekend. “Hanging forward compliance is a shared responsibility, and active monitoring is section of that job.”
The Volunteers went 3-7 in Pruitt’s third season as head coach. He’s now 16-19 at the helm for the Vols. .
