For female flies, mating requires the relevant musical backdrop

A peculiar look traces the neural circuit that makes a female cruise receptive to a mating reach.

The female fruit cruise has discerning standards for her sexual partners: She’ll simplest tag that she’s ready to breed as soon as a male cruise has serenaded her with the upright courtship music.

Now, unusual analysis from scientists at HHMI’s Janelia Look at Campus identifies the neural pathway that controls female flies’ receptivity to mating. Led by analysis scientists Kaiyu Wang and Fei Wang, within the lab of group chief Barry Dickson, the crew traced the pathway that directs the cruise’s vaginal plates to starting up—a tag she’s ready to accomplice up.
