“We are in the midst of a revolution gorgeous? What’s a revolution without a music and a music without a revolution.”
That is the ask the Grammy-winning artist Janelle Monáe posed to Leisure Weekly when describing her newest single, “Turntables.” The music used to be launched on and flips between cleverly rapped lines about “liberation, elevation, training” and a harmonic refrain with sure gospel influences.
