CINCINNATI — Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow‘s first phrases after the crew’s victory over the Minnesota Vikings have been aimed squarely at the discourse surrounding rookie huge receiver Ja’Marr Amble.
“I knowing he became once losing the entirety,” Burrow sarcastically quipped moments after he walked previous Amble forward of talking with the media for his postgame data convention on Sunday.
Amble, who battled drops within the preseason, had a crew-excessive five catches for 101 yards and a touchdown in the Bengals’ 27-24 overtime steal at Paul Brown Stadium.
The fifth-total purchase on this year’s NFL draft acknowledged he became once conscious of the total chatter surrounding his catching woes and brushed off it all as “trash talk.” After the game, Amble acknowledged he became once assured he would invent when it counts.
“I know I became once going to manufacture it,” Amble acknowledged. “It became once factual a subject of time. Upright play my sport and take care of what I got here here to manufacture, and that is what I did.”
Amble had zero drops in his NFL debut that ended up being the most productive by a Bengals rookie in a season opener. He broke the Bengals’ franchise document for receiving yards in a debut, previously location by Jordan Shipley (82 yards in 2010). The worn LSU product had his greatest play of the game when he went down the precise sideline and hauled in a 50-yard pick for a touchdown with 35 seconds left within the major half of, after which he did his signature “Griddy” dance within the conclude zone.
“I knowing he delivered,” Bengals operating back Joe Mixon acknowledged. “That’s what we picked him for.”
Questions about Amble’s catching skill have been among the many dominant storylines for the length of his rookie coaching camp. Last week, Amble commented on the adaptation between the balls in college and the NFL, which introduced on a pair of headlines, as neatly.
It wasn’t all media chatter, though.
Burrow acknowledged that he became once approached this week by some asserting they hoped Amble would play neatly on Sunday. Burrow simply shrugged off the troubles for his worn LSU teammate and instructed them no longer to fear.
“Or no longer it’s Sunday, it be sport day,” Burrow acknowledged as he recalled that dialog. “He goes to reach back ready to play.”
