Hawks Command Juneteenth Will Be Paid Firm Holiday for All Employees

The Atlanta Hawks launched Sunday that Juneteenth would be a paid company vacation for all crew workers going forward.

The Hawks assert they’ve designated Juneteenth as a permanent paid company vacation for all its workers. Relationship lend a hand to 1865, it was once on June 19 that the Union troopers arrived in Galveston, Texas with news that the war had ended and that the enslaved were now free.

That date—June 19, 1865—got right here nearly two-and-a-half of years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation on Jan. 1, 1863. 

But as Elizabeth Nix of Historical previous.com essential, the Emancipation Proclamation “didn’t at once free any slaves.
