Modder adds ray tracing to Mario 64’s unofficial PC port

In context: Earlier this year, a mettlesome, nameless PC user launched their very occupy honest Mario 64 port for PC, all straight away or fanfare. Despite the incontrovertible fact that Nintendo became like a flash to crack down on download links, the port already made its plot out into the wild, and modders have been having a topic day with it ever since.

Some mods uncap the sport’s framerate (which we manufacture no longer recommend), dangle away the plot distance limit so it’s likely you’ll gaze objects and enemies from additional away, and even add in entirely unique HD units for several key characters.

More spectacular than all of those, even though, is a mod made by Twitter user Darío that adds proper ray tracing to the sport.

Next-gen builders: Raytracing hardware is so colossal, we can eventually pause proper reflections on water puddles and automobile house windows!

It be no longer on hand to the public yet, however the modder has been posting typical development photos on his Twitter page.

For now, Darío has entirely polished up his implementation of ray traced reflections, and it looks quite honest. Up to now, we have seen a ray traced version of metal Mario, and a ray traced droplet of water (or, no longer much less than, we steal it’s water), which it’s likely you’ll gaze in the photos above.

We sit up for seeing Darío’s development over the arrival months, and we’ll completely let if his mod ever releases to the public or receives any vital improvements.
