Sophie Wilson
A British pc scientist, Sophie Wilson used to be the dressmaker of the Acorn Micro-pc and creator of the programming structure for the distinctive ARM chip.
In the 80s, Wilson labored on setting up the programming language for the Acorn System 1, an 8-bit microcomputer designed for users to manufacture themselves at home.
Wilson’s work at Acorn went on to proper the firm a contract with the BBC to originate BBC Overall, the programming language of the BBC Micro, a condominium pc developed as piece of the BBC’s pc literacy mission within the 1980s.
Wilson transitioned from male to female in 1994, and went on to work at semiconductor producer Broadcom whose machine chip used to be one amongst the principle substances of the Raspberry Pi pc.
She’s a fellow of the BCS, a fellow of the Royal Society, and used to be awarded a CBE in 2019 for products and services to computing.
